County Coroner IDs Pedestrian Struck, Killed Tuesday Night

The motorist from Vacaville told officers the man was dressed in black and pushing a shopping cart in the center of the road.

The Solano County coroner’s office has identified a pedestrian who was struck and killed by a vehicle Tuesday night near Vallejo as 25-year-old Selam Thomas. Thomas’ city of residence was not clear, but he had an Alaska driver’s license, according to the coroner’s office.

homas was pushing a shopping cart in the middle of McGary Road east of Hiddenbrooke Parkway in unincorporated Solano County around 10:50 p.m. Tuesday when he was struck by a Chevrolet Tahoe traveling east on McGary, California Highway Patrol officials said.

The Tahoe driver, Jose Jacinto Valencia, 32, of Vacaville, said Thomas was dressed in black clothing. Valencia tried to apply the brakes and swerve to the left, but struck Thomas, who died at the scene, according to the CHP.
