Mare Island Cleanup Under Way

The cleanup includes landscaping and litter abatement on Highway 37 near Walnut Avenue, on sites adjacent to the highway and on Mare Island.

MARE ISLAND, CA — Crews from Caltrans and the city of Vallejo planned to clean up entrances to Mare Island Wednesday. The cleanup includes landscaping and litter abatement on state Highway 37 near the Walnut Avenue exit, on sites adjacent to Highway 37 and on Mare Island itself.

Crews were set to trim overgrown trees, clear storm drains, weed, mow and clear out trash and debris between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Wednesday, weather permitting.

No highway closures were scheduled but lane and shoulder closures were expected to in effect. Motorists are urged to drive with caution on Highway 37 near Walnut Avenue.

The maintenance started earlier this week. It is part of an ongoing partnership among Caltrans, the city of Vallejo and several agencies through the Vallejo Interagency Partnership program.
