Currently there are more than four million adults on community supervision across the United States, and most of these individuals are monitored by pretrial, probation, and parole officers. Monitoring may take the form of home contacts, drug testing, making sure the offender attends counseling sessions, and helping offenders to find suitable housing and employment.
The Solano County Probation Department supervises more than 3,000 adults and 200 youth. The Department also provides diversion services to approximately 200 youth per year, and operates two multi-service centers for youth and adults.

Due to the COVID-19 emergency, Department staff is finding creative solutions to make sure those they supervise have the support needed to find jobs, housing, and treatment. By collaborating with other County departments and community-based organizations, the Probation Officers and Group Counselors of Solano County are making a difference.
During the pandemic, Department staff continues to rise to the challenge, delivering recidivism reducing programs to clients, conducting treatment groups through technology and providing supervision services by conducting home visits while implementing social distancing best practices.
“Probation is a unique profession that requires a probation officer to wear many hats from an officer that balances rehabilitation, programming, and monitoring, to a caring and compassionate counselor,” says Christopher Hansen, Solano County Chief Probation Officer. “They do this to keep our community safe. There can be no better outcome than having a client become a productive law abiding citizen.”
Members of the Solano community are encouraged to observe Probation and Community Supervision Week to honor the Solano County Probation Officers, and Group Counselors who make a difference, and keep our community a safer place to live.
