2 Arrests, 21 Citations Issued At Berkeley DUI Checkpoint
Another checkpoint is scheduled for next month.
BERKELEY, CA — Two people were arrested and another 21 were issued citations at a DUI Checkpoint held by Berkeley Police last Thursday.
Police did not release information on the suspects arrested. The 21 tickets went to drivers who were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed, or with a suspended or revoked license.
The DUI checkpoint was held from 8 p.m. to 12:20 a.m. at University Avenue and Grant Street. The location was picked because of impaired driving-related crashes in that area in the past.
DUI checkpoints are held to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads. The next one is scheduled for Jan. 19.
Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
