We ask community members to quickly report any disputes or altercations, especially if a firearm is seen. Community members can also play a crucial role in locating evidence, and providing information such as newly discovered damage or providing information or home video surveillance recordings.

Some of the shootings have resulted in injuries, including one Wednesday at about 5:40 pm, after which a 16-year-old male who lived outside Berkeley was dropped off at a local hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound. Multiple residents reported gunfire, resulting in immediate response from Berkeley Police.
BPD officers quickly determined that this shooting and several others appear to have involved two groups shooting at each other. This does not appear to have been a random act, but rather an incident involving two groups of individuals targeting each other. This shooting is one of several shootings, including the murder of Alex Goodwin, that have occurred in this area during the summer. In each incident, our officers and investigators have worked to gather evidence, locate and interview witnesses, and identify potential suspects. Investigators are looking at potential connections between these cases.
Berkeley Police are taking a focused approach to enforcement. A very small number of people are involved causing the problems.
