Bay Area Artist LaRussell To Play At Super Bowl LX

"Being part of Super Bowl week in my hometown means the world to me," LaRussell said.

VALLEJO, CA — Vallejo native LaRussell will be playing at Super Bowl LX in the Bay Area next month, the NFL announced Wednesday.

The "I Got Flavor!" rapper will be the opening act for the Super Bowl LX Tailgate Concert ahead of kickoff on Sunday, Feb. 8, at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara. LaRussell will also be performing with the house band at the big game, according to the NFL.

In a post on social media Wednesday morning, LaRussell wrote in capital letters about how big an accomplishment performing at the Super Bowl was for him.

"Music has taken me places I never imagined, and Super Bowl is definitely one of them," LaRussell said in a press release on Wednesday. "Being part of Super Bowl week in my hometown means the world to me."

The independent artist has made a name for himself with his "pay what you want" model. Through this model, he hosts concerts in the backyard of his childhood home.

Over the last few months, he's been on a mission to break records by selling100,000 albums independently from his home. His run has garnered the attention of Southern California rapper Snoop Dogg and NBA star Kyrie Irving, who paid thousands for LaRussell's upcoming digital album, "Something's In The Water." So far, he's sold 18,788 albums.

Grammy-nominated artist Teddy Swims, meanwhile, will headline the concert, according to the NFL. The concert will be livestreamed on Peacock at 12:50 p.m. Rock legends Green Day will play the opening ceremony. Award-winning Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny will perform the halftime show.
