Rowena Tomaneng will start her new job at the beginning of January.

BERKELEY, CA — San Jose City College has a new president: Rowena M. Tomaneng, who currently serves in the same position at Berkeley City College.

Tomaneng, a first-generation immigrant from the Philippines, has served as Berkeley City College's president since 2016 and is scheduled to join the San Jose school on Jan. 6, 2020, pending approval by the San Jose-Evergreen Community College District board.

Before her tenure at Berkeley City College, Tomaneng had served in various roles at De Anza College in Cupertino.

Roland Montemayor served as acting president during the search for a new president after Clift Breland, who had served in the role since 2013, was appointed as the San Jose-Evergreen Community College District chancellor last year.

"We are very pleased to have a candidate of Dr. Tomaneng's calibe to serve as the next president of San Jose City College," Breland said in a news release. "She brings a depth and breadth of experience that will help us continue our positive trajectory at SJCC."
