Berkeley Team Wins National Championship In Esports

Scholarship money was on the line.

BERKELEY, CA —Students at the University of California at Berkeley took home the national championship in esports on Sunday - also known as competitive video gaming - according to Tespa, a collegiate esports organizer and operator.

UC Berkeley's Starcraft II team beat students from Canada's University of Waterloo 4-3 in what Tespa hailed as a "nail-biting" series on Sunday.

Tespa, a network of college gamers, esports clubs and competitive leagues, sponsored and broadcast the event. The winner took home $10,500 in scholarship money, Tespa officials said on Twitter.
