Carol Christ Approved As UC Berkeley Chancellor
She is the former president of Smith College, and the first woman chancellor in UC Berkeley's nearly 150 year history.

BERKELEY, CA — The University of California Board of Regents unanimously approved today the appointment of Carol Christ as UC Berkeley's first woman chancellor.
Christ, who previously served as the president of Smith College, is currently the school's interim executive vice chancellor and provost. When she assumes her new role on July 1, she will be the university's 11th
chancellor.
The board set Christ's annual compensation at $531,939, the same salary as that of current chancellor Nicholas Dirks, who announced in August that he would step down from his position to return to teaching and research once a successor is in place.
