Bay Area Video Coalition's Factory Program Year-End Screening

The Factory, the Bay Area Video Coalition’s advanced video production program for East Bay teenagers, will host its year-end screening at UC Berkeley’s Pacific Film Archive on Saturday, Aug. 27 at 2pm.

The 2010-2011 school year marks the eighth and most-productive year in the program’s existence. The fifteen young filmmakers in the program produced twenty pieces including narrative shorts, documentaries, music videos, and Public Service Announcements.

The screening will also unveil the Factory’s five Community Filmmaking Partnership projects. This year, students in the Factory worked closely with Bay Area nonprofits to produce films that partner organization’s could feature on their websites, and use in online fundraising campaigns and recruiting pitches.  This year’s partners included City Slicker Farms, the Huey P. Newton Foundation, Creative Growth, Inspire USA, and the San Francisco YMCA Truancy Assessment and Referral Center.

Screening attendees will also be able to engage with “web-native” versions of films, which Factory participants created with the help of programmers from the Mozilla Foundation. Web-native movies are interactive viewing experiences that utilize the potential for Internet-based engagement and community-building.

Refreshments will be served at 2pm and the show starts at 3pm, followed by a Q&A session with the filmmakers.
