California women won the right to vote in 1911, nine years before the federal franchise. The Berkeley History Center will celebrate the centennial in its upcoming exhibit Berkeley Women Vote: Celebrating California Suffrage 1911-2011, opening Sept. 18.
Women and men are sought to to kick off the yearlong commemoration in Berkeley of the centennial by re-enacting a votes-for-women march at the Parade on Sept. 11, 2011.
The parade unit will assemble at 8 a.m. dressed as 1911 suffragists in period-appropriate clothing to march in the parade, which begins at 10 am.
