Joan Steinau Lester Presents “Branching Out: Expressions of Mixed Heritage” at UC Berkeley

On Saturday, Nov. 5, Joan Steinau Lester, whose book BLACK, WHITE, OTHER: In Search of Nina Armstrong is now in stores, will speak at the Mixed Student Union Conference to be held at the University of California at Berkeley from 1:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. Her speech will be titled “Branching Out: Expressions of Mixed Heritage” and will be held in the  Multicultural Center, Martin Luther King Jr. Building. It is open to the public.

Lester is an award-winning NPR commentator on the issue of diversity and culture. Her new book is a coming-of-age story of a biracial teen who is struggling with identity issues at home and in school. This is a story that is very close to Lester’s heart as she is a mother of two biracial children. This is a timely book that will touch the hearts of both teens and parents alike.
