Make Art with William Theophilus Brown

2 p.m. Informal tour of

2:30–5 p.m. Drop-in collage making
Collage materials provided, but feel free to bring your own. Meant for adults, but young people over 12 with adult companions are welcome.

The recent work of William Theophilus Brown, a leading figure in the Bay Area Figurative movement, originates as abstract painting, which he then cuts and pastes into new compositions — part acrylic paint, part collage — that display the monumentality and gestural quality of the New York School.

Immediately preceding the collage making, Brown will comment informally in the exhibition galleries about some of his favorite Schwitters pieces.
