Former NBA All Star Opens 'Black Santa' Store

OAKLAND, CA — Former Golden State Warrior and two-time NBA All-Star, Baron Davis wants children of color to know that Santa looks like them, no matter their ethnicity. With that in mind, he founded Black Santa with products available online and a pop-up store in Oakland's Jack London Square. "With all that’s going on in this country, and particularly in the African-American community, I want to offer heroes and role models through storytelling," said Davis. "Black Santa is the first character. His mission is to celebrate diversity, the joy of giving and the magic of good. He’s here to bring people together and have fun."

The store will be open Wednesdays through Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. starting Nov. 23. Events at Black Santa’s U Wish Workshop include:

• Black Santa and Mrs. C meet-and-greets and photo ops on weekends
• Festive workshops with ornament-making and dreamer note-writing
• Kids yoga
• Dance parties

The money raised through the sell of Black Santa merchandise goes to The Many Faces of Santa Claus, a 5013C charity. You may purchase Black Santa tee shirts, sweaters and sweatshirts at the Black Santa online store.

You can get to Jack London Square by car, Alameda/SF Bay Ferry, Amtrak, biking, and walking.
