Lithium Battery Suspected In 2-Alarm Berkeley Fire
The fire caused an estimated $150,000 in damage to the home.
BERKELEY, CA — Berkeley firefighters extinguished a two-alarm house fire late Tuesday evening.
The fire was reported at 10:02 p.m. for a residence in the 1600 block of Kains Avenue. Several calls came into the Berkeley Fire Department, and there was mention that an elderly man lived in the home.
It was confirmed by firefighters that the elderly man was not in the house when the fire occurred.
Initial damage is estimated at $150,000.

Fire investigators said the possible cause of the fire was a lithium battery that was in the area of origin of the fire.
