Another Massive Sea Lion Is Making Waves At SF's Pier 39: Report

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — After a massive Steller sea lion dubbed "Chonkers" won San Francisco's heart earlier this spring, a new contender is making its Pier 39 debut.

KRON4 reports that a new sea lion with visible scarring has taken a liking to Pier 39.

Seeing such massive sea lions holing up at the pier is not a common sight. Sue Pemberton with California Academy of Sciences told KRON4 that in her 41 years working on the pier, it's the first time she's seen multiple visits from Steller sea lions.

Pemberton suggests that the sea lion, who has yet to be given a nickname like his chonky counterpart, followed California sea lions to the pier and stayed in part because of the abundance of food, according to KRON4.

It's unclear where the other sea lion, "Chonkers," could be right now.

The beefy sea lion caused a buzz in San Francisco, becoming the city's latest microcelebrity and prompting The Marine Mammal Center to start selling plushies of it.

Chonkers, according to experts, has cruised through the Bay Area for more than a decade.
