UC Berkeley Professor To Receive Award

BERKELEY, CA — A professor at the University of California at Berkeley and a former chair at the Federal Reserve will be honored in February by the University of California at Santa Cruz, university officials said.

Janet Yellen, who's been teaching at UC Berkeley since 1980, and currently teaches at the Haas School of Business there, will be honored with the UC Santa Cruz 2019 Foundation Medal. The medal recognizes people whose achievements have been extraordinary and that exemplify the ideals and vision of UC Santa Cruz.

Yellen is the first woman to lead the Federal Reserve and she has held other posts such as vice chair of the Federal Reserve, CEO and president of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco and chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisors under President Bill Clinton.

According to university officials, Yellen is also a fellow of the Brookings Institution, which conducts research and makes policy recommendations to solve problems in the world.

University of California President Janet Napolitano will make remarks at the presentation that starts at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 2 at Hotel Nia in Menlo Park.

People who want to attend must register by Jan. 18. Tickets are $100 per person.
