Beverly Hills Encourages City to All Read the Same Book
Called "One Book, One City," a new library program has a big goal.

From the city of Beverly Hills:
Join the City of Beverly Hills Public Library along with hundreds of teens, adults, and seniors in its first-ever One Book, One City community reading program going on now through October.
Sponsored by the Beverly Hills Public Library, Human Relations Commission, and Beverly Hills Unified School District, One Book, One City is designed to bring Beverly Hills together, inspire appreciation for diversity and spark conversations among readers of all ages, backgrounds, and ethnicities.

“We want to promote positive human relations in all aspects of community life,” commented Human Relations Commission Chair Rochelle Ginsburg. “Through this shared reading experience, we hope to generate thoughtful dialog and foster respect and appreciation among a diverse mix of people.”
Rated number one on the New York Times Best Seller list, the “Boys in the Boat” by Daniel James Brown is an inspiring true story of nine underdogs and their epic quest for gold at the 1936 Olympics. The book demonstrates how a small, diverse group can accomplish great things when working together towards a common goal.

Everyone is invited to attend one of many book discussions happening throughout September in anticipation of the culminating author event on October 12th. One Book, One City events include:
· Free book discussion with Rochelle Ginsburg, Human Relations Commission Chair, on Sept. 11 at 10:30 a.m. at Roxbury Park Community Center
· Book discussion with Judith Palarz, Friends of the Library, on Sept. 2 and Sept. 10 at 10:15 a.m. and on Sept. 18 at 1 p.m. at the Beverly Hills Public Library. Fee: $5 donation
· Free community read and film discussion with David Davis on Sept. 14 at 3 p.m. at the Beverly Hills Public Library.
· Free meet-and-greet with “Boys in the Boat” author Daniel James Brown at Beverly Hills High School on Oct. 12 at 3 p.m. Space is limited so readers must R.S.V.P. to attend.
With the generous support of the Friends of the Beverly Hills Public Library, books, audiobooks, and e-books of “The Boys in the Boat” are available for checkout.

About the Author:
