Major Graduation Event Back On In Beverly Hills

Beverly Hills High School's Diploma Drive graduation event is back on after LA County permitted car parades.

BEVERLY HILLS, CA — A bit of good news before the holiday weekend : the Beverly Hills High School Diploma Drive, in which seniors take a professional, socially-distanced photo in their cap and gown with Principal Mark Mead, is back on.

Beverly Hills Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Michael Bregy made the announcement in an email to parents and students after Los Angeles County released new guidelines that now permit car parades. This reverses a May 15 decision that such events were not permitted under the Safer at Home Order.

“Beverly Hills High School will hold a Diploma Drive on June 4th!” Bregy said. “We are so proud of our seniors and are thrilled to be able to celebrate the culmination of your high school journey this way.”

Bregy continued that the announcement came with a list of strict rules and regulations that the District intends to follow. The County mandates that participants cannot come on a bicycle, motorcycle, convertible with the top open, or a vehicle with no doors. If any vehicle windows are open, the vehicle occupant must wear a face covering.

The County mandates that the district provides security to comply with the state’s order, ensure proper face coverings and social distancing, and take place in a location large enough to accommodate social distancing requirements, among others. The Diploma Drive will take place on Heath Avenue on the Beverly Hills High School campus on June 4.

“The health and safety of our entire community is of the utmost importance to me and I know that you will share in my commitment to ensuring we uphold the greatest care when participating in this event,” Bregy wrote in the email. “Please stay tuned for a comprehensive plan about how the day will proceed.”
