'Moana' Remains at No. 1, Besting 'Fantastic Beasts' at Weekend Box Office

LOS ANGELES, CA -- Disney's Hawaiian-themed animated adventure "Moana" remained the top film at North American theaters over the weekend, followed again by the wizarding fantasy "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," according to final figures released Monday.
"Moana" earned $28.3 million between Friday and Sunday to retain the top spot at the box office and push its two-week total to $119.8 million, according to box office tracker comScore. "Fantastic Beasts" collected $18.1 million over the weekend, giving it a three-week haul of $183.1 million.
The sci-fi thriller "Arrival" moved up to third place, with $7.3 million, followed closely by the Brad Pitt spy drama "Allied." The superhero adventure "Doctor Strange" earned $6.7 million, giving it a five-week total of $215.5 million.

Rounding out the top 10 films of the weekend were "Trolls" ($4.7 million); "Hacksaw Ridge" ($3.3 million); "Bad Santa 2" ($3.2 million); "Incarnate" ($2.53 million); and "Almost Christmas" ($2.5 million).
