19-Year-Old Arrested on Suspicion of Attempted Murder

Police arrested a 19-year-old San Mateo woman early Thursday morning in Burlingame on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, police said.

Police arrested Francesca Martinez after she allegedly struck a 21-year-old Belmont woman over the head with a whiskey bottle and stabbed the woman at about 5 a.m. at a home in the 1700 block of Sequoia Avenue,
according to police.

Police said the confrontation began when the two women began texting each other about Martinez’s former boyfriend who is now the other woman’s fiancé. The two spoke on the phone and had a heated conversation,
which led to a meeting at the home, police said.

Martinez charged at the victim with the bottle and a pocketknife, police said. Police said Martinez stabbed the victim several times.

The victim’s fiancé had accompanied her to the home where the incident took place and took her to the hospital after the attack, police said. The victim was treated for wounds to her lower abdominal area, a superficial cut in her torso and cuts on her forehead, according to police.

Police arrested Martinez in front of the Sequoia Avenue home and booked her in the San Mateo county jail.
