Train Strikes Car on Burlingame Tracks

This is the second car to be hit in less than a week.

Burlingame, CA— An unoccupied vehicle was hit by a train in Burlingame Monday morning, but no one was injured, a Caltrain spokeswoman reports.

According to Caltrain Communications Officer Tasha Bartholomew, train #102 struck an unoccupied vehicle north of the Broadway crossing in Burlingame while headed southbound at around 5:30 a.m.

"No injuries have been reported," she said shortly after the incident. "Emergency personnel are on-scene and trains are stopped in both directions because the vehicle is blocking both tracks."

By 7:09 a.m., the vehicle was removed from the tracks and "... both tracks have been cleared and authorized for maximum speed through the incident area," she said.

Caltrain officials were working with Samtrans to establish a bus bridge to serve the San Mateo, Burlingame and Millbrae stations and BART was honoring CalTrain fares.

There were 35 passengers on board the train. Delays up to 90 minutes were expected.

Last Wednesday,a commuter train carrying more than 1,000 passengers struck a vehicle on the tracks in Redwood City. No injuries were reported in that incident either.
