Car Found Crashed into Belmont Pond, Driver Sought

Police say they're still trying to find the driver.

Belmont police are investigating Monday a weekend crash in which a car was found crashed into a local pond.

According to Belmont Police Capt. Patrick Halleran, the agency got a call about a vehicle in the pond, at the intersection of Concourse and Clipper drives, around midnight Sunday.

“Upon arrival officers found a Volkswagen Beetle partially submerged in approximately four feet of water,” Halleran said, adding that it took multiple tow trucks more than two hours to pull the vehicle out.

Noticeably absent from the scene were any people, “... and evidence at the scene indicated that the driver walked from the scene toward the nearby Hyatt House Hotel,” Halleran said.

Witnesses told cops that it looked like the driver was a man-- who may have been hurt.
