Free showing of 'Fed Up' on June 17

This documentary could change the way you eat.

It’s not your fault if you’re overweight, according to “Fed Up,” a documentary that presents evidence that large quantities of sugar in processed foods are an overlooked problem exacerbated by “Big Sugar” lobbyists.
The film will be shown on Wednesday, June 17, at 7 p.m. in the Lane Room of the Burlingame Public Library, free of charge, by the Citizens Environmental Council of Burlingame.

Produced and narrated by journalist and TV personality Katie Couric, “Fed Up” explains how the first dietary guidelines issued by the U.S. government 30 years ago overlooked the role of dietary sugar in increasing risks of obesity and diabetes and other poor health outcomes. Because of poor diets, it argues that today’s children are the first generation likely to have shorter lifespans than their parents. Yet attempts to regulate the addition of sugar to foods by schools, parents, states and Congress have been beaten back by the sugar industry, the film says.
