Grassroots Advocacy, Skill Building Workshop Planned In Burlingame; Registration Deadline Nears
Phone calls and online petitions are not enough to move the needle. Learn how to focus your time and energy effectively.

Join us on Saturday, June 3, at a “Grassroots Advocacy and Skill Building” workshop with an experienced advocacy trainer, Brian Rawson, to learn how to use tools and techniques to advocate for the issue of your choice. “Our April 12 introductory program with Brian was such a success that we’re offering more intensive training,” explained Mike McCord, chair of the Citizens Environmental Council of Burlingame, which is sponsoring the event.
The program will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Burlingame Recreation Center, 850 Burlingame Ave., Burlingame. Coffee, tea and muffins will be served. The cost of $15 will help defray expenses; no one will be excluded from this program due to financial need. Reserve by May 22 on EventBrite or visit cecburlingame.org or for more information. Rawson has two decades of experience in mobilizing people to create solutions for societal inequities for organizations, including Oxfam America and the Nobel-awarded International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War. He will teach participants how to refine an advocacy message for a target audience, how to give a brief, persuasive talk on an issue and how to develop tactics that get noticed by those with the power to create change. In addition, attendees will learn the best ways to contact leaders and how to partner with others to magnify their influence. While examples given will focus on environmental policies, the skills taught are applicable to any advocacy effort.
