Hillsborough Police Increase Patrols as More Home Break-Ins Reported

There have been five residential burglaries in the last two weeks, police said.

The following is a news alert from the Hillsborough Police Department:

In the past two weeks, 5 residential burglaries have been reported to the Hillsborough Police Department. These burglaries have been reported in the 1000 block of Black Mountain Road, the 700 block of Darrell Road, the 1000 block of Macadamia, and on Corlett Way. Allied agencies on the Peninsula have also seen a recent increase in residential burglaries. We are working closely with these agencies to investigate these cases, as several suspects are believed to be responsible for these regional thefts.

The Hillsborough Police Department has increased patrols, both marked and unmarked, and is actively pursuing investigative leads in these cases. In addition, along with our regional partners, we are utilizing all available technology and investigative tools to aid in our investigations. Recently, an arrest was made by the Burlingame Police Department on two adults for an in-progress burglary in their western hills neighborhood. Their role in the Hillsborough burglaries is being determined.

Some of the items stolen from the homes have included financial documents, jewelry, computers, watches, cameras, currency, one vehicle, and foreign coins.

In four of the five Hillsborough burglary cases, residential alarm systems were either not armed, or they were not installed in these homes. In the one burglary case where the alarm was activated by the intruder, the suspect fled rapidly and this reduced the potential loss for the victim. The Hillsborough Police Department strongly encourages the use of residential alarm and camera surveillance systems. A list of licensed providers is available at the Hillsborough Police Department.

In addition, it is strongly recommended that residents lock all doors and windows of their homes and that sliding doors be supported by a dowel or other locking mechanism.

The Hillsborough Police Department also encourages all residents to be vigilant and to report suspicious people and vehicles immediately.
