Homeowner Ruptures Gas Line While Doing Work on Home

No evacuations were needed and PG&E advice residents to call the dig line before doing any digging on their property.

A homeowner struck a gas line with a pick at his home in Burlingame on Monday afternoon, causing a minor gas leak, a PG&E spokesman said.

PG&E crews responded to the report of a gas leak at 3:16 p.m. in the 1300 block of Balboa Avenue in Burlingame, PG&E spokesman Nick Smith said.

The homeowner struck a 3/4-inch steel service line with a pick while doing work on his house, Smith said.

PG&E crews were able to shut off the gas at 3:39 p.m. and Smith said no evacuations were needed and no injuries were reported.

Smith reminded residents to always call 811 before digging so PG&E can delineate any underground gas lines.
