Make Your Garden Water Efficient

Learn how to create a beautiful landscape with native California plants at a free program on July 22

You don’t have to live with an ugly brown lawn. Come and hear award-winning gardener Frank Niccoli explain how to beautify your garden with drought-tolerant landscaping on Wednesday, July 22, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Lane Room at the Burlingame Public Library, 480 Primrose Road. Admission is free.

Frank Niccoli has won gold medals at the prestigious San Francisco Flower and Garden Show. He has been a gardener for 60 years, ever since his grandmother taught him the magic of seeds at age 7. He was a landscape contractor for 41 years. He serves on the board of directors of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers, and is a past president and current director of the California Landscape Contractors Association. He teaches numerous classes at Foothill College and Merritt College.

“Instead of living with a brown lawn or spraying it green, you can turn your yard into an oasis of beautiful plants that are sustainable because they are designed for our climate,” said Niccoli. “Lawns typically account for 60 percent of a homeowner’s water bill. I’ve helped people cut their water usage by 30 to 50 percent by choosing plants native to California.”
