Nominations open for Sustainable San Mateo County Awards

Nominate a person, organization or building by Dec. 6

Sustainable San Mateo County (SSMC) is now accepting nominations for its 2021 awards program, which honors those who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to sustainable practices. Applications must be received by Sunday, December 6. SSMC will recognize the 2021 awardees at its 22nd annual Awards Celebration in 2021.

Sustainability Award nominations may be made in five categories: individuals, nonprofits, businesses, education institutions and government agencies. In addition, SSMC is accepting nominations for its 19th annual Green Building Award, which it cosponsors with the San Mateo Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. This award is given to a project in the county that promotes green, sustainable design and construction.

At the Awards Celebration last July, SSMC honored San Mateo County Supervisor Dave Pine, the San Mateo County Office of Education’s Environmental Literacy and Sustainability Initiative, and the Campaign for Fossil Free Buildings in Silicon Valley. The Green Building Award was presented to the Genentech Child Care Center in South San Francisco. A Green Building Honorable Mention was given to the North Block Hillsdale Shopping Center.

Sustainable San Mateo County’s mission is to drive impactful action on economic, environmental and social equity issues that leads to sustainable practices and improves the long-term health of San Mateo County.
