Officers Plan Traffic Safety Crackdown on I-280 on Wednesday

On Wednesday, Dec. 17, traffic officers from various law enforcement agencies throughout San Mateo County will be participating in the San Mateo County Saturation Traffic Enforcement Program (S.T.E.P.). The STEP program is a collaborative effort to increase traffic safety and awareness in known trouble spots throughout San Mateo County.
Wednesday’s deployment will occur in San Carlos and additionally, officers will be conducting speed enforcement on Interstate 280 in San Mateo County.

The deployment will include strict education and enforcement on unsafe speed violations as well as occupant protection and distracted driving.
“In light of the recent storm activity, there is no better time to emphasize the importance of driving safely. With that in mind, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the law enforcement agencies within our county for their support in enhancing traffic safety in the city of San Carlos during this, the busy holiday season” said Assistant Sheriff Trisha Sanchez.

Captain Mike Maskarich of the Redwood City Area of the California Highway Patrol said, “The Redwood City Area of the California Highway Patrol is proud to partner with other law enforcement agencies within San Mateo County in a collaborative effort to enhance traffic safety in our communities. Public awareness, combined with enforcement, education, and engineering related to traffic safety are the keys for success in reducing collisions, preventing injuries, and saving lives.”
This is the twelfth deployment in a number of planned multi-agency saturation deployments scheduled to be performed throughout San Mateo County in 2014. The San Mateo County Police Chiefs and Sheriff Association have all committed to this important safety initiative. These planned multi-agency saturation deployments will continue throughout San Mateo County in 2015.
