Peninsula Teens Busted Burglarizing Home, Police Say

San Mateo County sheriff’s deputies arrested a man and a juvenile on suspicion of burglarizing a home in San Carlos last Wednesday, sheriff’s officials said.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report from a homeowner of someone breaking into his house at 11:12 a.m. in the 400 block of De Anza Avenue.

Sheriff’s officials said the homeowner had equipped his residence with motion sensitive surveillance cameras that are configured to send text alerts to the homeowner’s phone when motion is detected inside the house.

The homeowner was away from his house and began receiving the text alerts, which included pictures captured on the camera in real time, sheriff’s officials said.

When he didn’t recognize the inhabitants, he called the police.

Deputies surrounded the house and ordered all of the occupants out, sheriff’s officials said.

When no one came out, deputies went inside and located two people they suspected of trying to steal electronics from the home.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Christian Juarez-Medrano, 18, of Redwood City and a 17-year-old boy from San Mateo, both on suspicion of burglary and conspiracy.

Juarez-Medrano was booked in the San Mateo County Jail and the juvenile was booked in the San Mateo County Youth Services Center.

Sheriff’s officials said the suspects would likely not have been caught without homeowner alerting them to the break-in.
