Police: Drugged Driver Causes Crash in Burlingame

Police say the man was driving under the influence of prescription drugs Thursday morning.

A Burlingame man has been arrested on suspicion of DUI for a Thursday morning crash in town, police said.

The crash was reported at 8:33 a.m., at the intersection of Primrose Road and Bellevue Avenue in Burlingame, according to Burlingame Police Corporal Brett Murphy.

It happened when 59-year-old Andrey Shipulin was headed southbound on Primrose and sideswiped another vehicle, Murphy said.

Responding officers determined that the man was driving under the influence of prescription medications, and arrested him.

“Drug-impaired driving is often under-reported and under-recognized and toxicology testing is expensive,” Murphy said. “To address this emerging problem, the California Office of Traffic Safety is funding programs to increase the number of officers trained to detect drug-impaired drivers, special District Attorneys dedicated to drug-impaired driving cases, and new laboratory drug-testing equipment.”
