Suspect in String of Bay Area Bank Robberies Arrest in L.A.

The FBI on Friday arrested a man wanted in connection with a number of bank robberies in the Bay Area known as the “Clean Cut Bandit.”

Darius Gilbert, 48, was arrested early Friday morning at a hotel in the Bel Air area of Los Angeles in connection with at least seven robberies in San Francisco and Antioch since late March, according to the FBI.

The suspect, dubbed the “Clean Cut Bandit” by FBI officials, was armed with a knife in at least some of the Bay Area robberies and a handgun in a more recent robbery, FBI officials said.

Investigators previously described him as a black man in his 30s or 40s, ranging in height from 6 feet 2 to 6 feet 4 inches with an athletic build and tattoos on both arms.

In many of the robberies, the man was seen wearing short-sleeved polo shirts, a bomber style jacket and aviator sunglasses, FBI officials said.

Gilbert was scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles on Friday afternoon, FBI officials said. He will be prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in San Francisco.
