'Voice Of The Animals Award' Goes To Congresswoman Jackie Speier

The Peninsula Humane Society awarded the local lawmaker with the honor.

BURLINGAME-HILLSBOROUGH, CA - From Peninsula Humane Society: Congresswoman Jackie Speier was awarded the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA’s (PHS/SCPA) Voice of the Animals Award at their 30th annual Gala Ball event on November 4, 2017.

“Congresswoman Speier has been a tireless advocate for animals and the environment,” said PHS/SPCA President Ken White. “It is our honor to present her with this award on behalf of the voiceless animals we serve. We are grateful to Congresswoman Speier’s dedication to animal welfare.”

Throughout her electoral career, Congresswoman Speier has worked on behalf of animals including leading the effort to establish the Farallon Island Marine Mammal and Bird Sanctuary and requiring the U.S. Department of Agriculture to reverse their recent decision and return to making information available to the public pertaining to the Animal Welfare Act and the Horse Protection Act.

“She’s not just an exceptional lawmaker for animals, she walks her talk too. Congresswoman Speier and her family adopted a dog from the Peninsula Humane Society and they also volunteer at our shelter,” according to White.

The award was presented to Congresswoman Speier during the 30th anniversary of PHS/SPCA’s annual Gala Ball event. This year’s fundraising event raised more than $250,000 for local animals. An anonymous donor provides a gift of $10,000 to PHS/SPCA animals every year in honor of each year’s Voice of the Animals award recipient.
