Tells Inspiring Stories About Heroic Everyday People

The San Fernando Valley Branch of the California Writers Club, serving Los Angeles and Ventura counties, welcomes award-winning author and journalist and boxer Alicia Doyle as its keynote speaker on Saturday, October 3 at 1 pm. She will be delivering a knockout presentation titled “Writing with Courage: Three True Stories of Faith, Resilience, and Justice.” The CWC-SFV branch is located at the Motion Picture and Television Fund Wasserman Campus, (Saban Center) 23388 Mulholland Drive in Woodland Hills.

A guiding force in Doyle’s life is that when you’re down for the count, get up. What distinguishes her work is the powerful belief that stories can uplift, inform, and make the world a better place. Widely known as “The Writer Who Specializes in Good News,” she has built a distinguished career highlighting the people, events, and everyday moments that inspire hope and positive change.

Doyle, a two-time Golden Gloves champion who debuted as a boxer at the age of 30 and was named California Female Fighter of the Year, is the author of “Fighting Chance,” a critically acclaimed nonfiction work that earned multiple literary honors, including first place in the North Street Book Prize for Non-Fiction. Her storytelling combines emotional depth with journalistic integrity, bringing real-life struggles and triumphs into sharp, compelling focus.

Doyle is also the author of “The Oath,” a gripping nonfiction novel that chronicles the remarkable life of former Simi Valley Police Officer Flo Trapani, a woman defined by strength, devotion, and an unbreakable will to endure. “The Oath” is not just a portrait of a life lived—it is a moving account of courage under pressure, of faith tested by hardship, and of the quiet but profound ways ordinary people can leave an extraordinary legacy.

Her third nonfiction novel, “The Forsaken,” tells the harrowing true story of Rhonda Wicht and her four-year-old son, Donnie, whose lives were violently stolen in their own home in Simi Valley in 1978. The book, co-authored by Rhonda’s sister, Shelley Hamilton, explores not only the devastating impact of that crime, but also the lasting heartbreak, unanswered questions, and relentless pursuit of truth that followed. With compassion and emotional force, Alicia honors Rhonda and Donnie’s memory while giving voice to the enduring pain of a family that has never stopped seeking justice.

Doyle explains, “I use the term nonfiction novel because my books are true stories, told like novels—factually accurate, but crafted with the drama, scenes, and character depth you’d expect from fiction.”
