Hours Before His Death, Former NFL Player Helped Feed Unhoused In South Bay: Report
The former 49ers star died at age 36, hours after taking part in a community outreach effort.
SAN JOSE, CA — Former San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith spent part of his final day delivering pizza to people experiencing homelessness in the South Bay, according to report by ABC7 News.
Smith died Saturday at age 36.
The Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner-Coroner is investigating the circumstances surrounding his death after he was pronounced dead at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose.

Hours earlier, Smith joined CHAM Deliverance Ministry in an effort to distribute food to homeless residents, Pastor Scott Wagers told ABC7 News Bay Area.
"My friend surprised me, he says I have a friend in my truck. Guy gets out, and it's a giant man," Wagers told ABC7.

According to Wagers, Smith arrived with 12 pizzas to hand out.
Photos taken during the outreach event are believed to be the last images of the former NFL player.
"An hour later, my friend called me and said, he's dead in my truck," Wagers told ABC7.
Smith was selected by the 49ers with the seventh overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft and became one of the league's most dominant pass rushers early in his career. He earned All-Pro honors in 2012 and a Pro Bowl selection in 2013.
The cause and manner of Smith's death remain under investigation.
