Police Seek More Victims Of Accused Campbell Craigslist Scammer

Police believe there may be more victims of a Campbell man accused of stealing more than $18,000 through Craigslist rental scams.

CAMPBELL, CA — A Campbell man who police described as a "prolific" scammer was arrested after allegedly stealing thousands of dollars through Craigslist rental scams.

Robert Milo, 23, is accused of committing at least six scams in which he advertised a room or apartment for rent on Craigslist below market rate, took deposits from renters and later informed them that the rental was no longer available. Milo then wrote refund checks from an account with insufficient funds, according to police.

In the last four months, Milo is accused of stealing more than $18,000 from the six victims.

Milo was arrested in September for an outstanding felony warrant for writing bad checks, stemming from a rental scam case. Then last month, the sixth Campbell victim told police that Milo had defrauded them as part of the Craigslist scheme.

Detectives found one of Milo's ads on Craigslist on Nov. 5, and posed as prospective renters. Milo agreed to meet to show them the apartment, sign a contract and hand over the keys, asking for $2,400 in cash or cashier's check.

Milo fled on foot after confronted him in the parking lot of his apartment complex on Union Avenue. He was arrested after a short pursuit.

Police believe there are more victims of Milo's scams and that he may have stolen far more than $18,000.

The rental addresses Milo is accused of using in his scams are:

  • 710 Nido Drive, Campbell
  • 235 Union Ave, Campbell
  • 3200 Payne Ave, San Jose

Milo has been booked on suspicion of three counts of fraud, one count of attempted fraud, three counts of writing fraudulent checks, one count of committing a felony while on supervised release, and one count of resisting arrest.
