Learn The Japanese Art Of Flower Arrangement At Filoli

Presentation on Ikebana coming to the country estate Oct. 20.

WOODSIDE, CA – Filoli, the grand country estate located in Woodside, is hosting a special presentation on Ikebana -- the Japanese art of flower arrangement.

The event will be Thursday, Oct, 20, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. presented by Katsuko Theike.

Ikebana is noted for perfect proportions and dramatic use of negative space and Thielke is a local, talented ikebana artist and Sogetsu instructor well known for her mastery of weaving techniques of leaves and grasses.

She will inspire the audience with her artful and creative arrangements. The audience will discover how they can incorporate some of the techniques she will demonstrate into their own designs.

Katsuko has written two books; one about Weaving and one about Bamboo. Currently, she is writing two additional books on using lotus leaves and palm fronds in ikebana arrangements. Following her demo there will be a reception, book sale and signing.

Fee: $30 members; $40 non-members. Non-member fee includes same day admission to Filoli.
