Earthquake Recap: Three Quakes Hit Santa Cruz County

Three small earthquakes made waves on the Richter scale in Santa Cruz County this week, with a 2.0 hitting seven miles north of Boulder Creek.

The temblor, which hit Thursday at 6:33 p.m., was followed by an aftershock at 10:28 p.m., with a second one trailing just an hour later.

The first aftershock, also hitting seven miles north of Boulder Creek, reached a magnitude of 1.9. The last, and smallest, shock measured in at 1.2 and hit six miles north of the same area.

Generally, earthquakes that fail to break the 2.0 mark on the scale are difficult to feel far from the epicenter. As of Saturday afternoon, no one reported feeling the three tremors in Santa Cruz County this week on the U.S. Geological Survey website.
