History Lives in Capitola Self Storage

A display of historic photos from the Capitola Museum shares the history of the town with locals.

Capitola’s history is alive in the photo gallery display at Capitolas Self Storage.

The display features enlarged photos from the Capitola Museum that were donated, purchased or borrowed from other museums. Hotel Capitola and the esplanade are just two of the historic areas that the photos capture.

Museum director Carolyn Swift said that Self Storage helped the museum by providing space for storage before the business opened and during the flood last year.

“We put the photos there in appreciation for all of their help and because it’s a good way to display,” said Swift.

Swift said that tourists usually visit the museum, but by putting displays in places that locals frequent they could reach a wider range of people.

Galleries in spaces other than the Capitola Museum are integral to the growth of the museum.

“That’s how the museum will grow to have more spaces to display things,” said Swift.

People stop at Self Storage before visiting the Capitola Museum as part of their historical enrichment of the town. Tenants also love seeing the various photos on the wall.
