Police Hunting Driver Of Silver Car With Front-End Damage

The vehicle is connected to a hit-and-run that killed a woman on Highway 1 in Santa Cruz County.

Evidence collected from the scene of a hit-and-run collision that left a woman dead on state Highway 1 in Santa Cruz last week indicates the involved vehicle may have front-end damage, police said today.

On June 10 around 12:45 a.m., officers responded to a report of a hit-and-run collision on northbound Highway 1 and River Street, police said. Officers arrived to find a woman, later identified as 59-year-old Dene Diannthe Shaw, on the roadway, according to police.

Emergency crews pronounced Shaw dead at the scene, police said.

Police released a photo captured on a surveillance system near the collision scene of a car, which they are calling a vehicle of interest in the case, that would have traveled north at the intersection between 12:30 a.m. and 1 a.m.

They car is described as silver-colored and similar to a Toyota Prius, police said.

Glass taken as evidence from the collision shows the car that struck Shaw most likely sustained front-end damage and has a broken front windshield and windshield wiper, according to police. A description on the suspect driver was not available.
