8-Foot Tall Sculptures Installed at New Safety Center
The police and fireman heads weigh 1,100 pounds a piece and are made of silicon bronze and stainless steel.
Artist Michael Stutz said he started the process for making these sculptures four years ago. In August 2011, he began fabricating.
The heads, a policeman and fireman, are of no one in particular, explained Stutz. "I wanted to create a sense of every man, every person," he said. "There are literally spaces for the viewer to fill in. They project humanity and expression but not a specific personality," added Stutz.

City of Carlsbad arts manager Peter Gordon said the cost of the artwork is approximately one percent of the new city cost, so about one percent of $24 million dollars.
The new center is scheduled to have a grand opening by the end of May.
