• Red Cross Urges Carlsbad Residents To Donate Blood This Fall (patch.com) — Carlsbad residents are being urged to donate blood or platelets this fall, with several local Red Cross drives scheduled at the Westin Carlsbad Resort, a local church, and the Shoppes at Carlsbad. Donors can receive e-gift cards, Amazon rewards, and even SeaWorld Howl-O-Scream tickets, while helping ensure hospitals have enough blood on hand for emergencies across the region.
   

• Coastal Commission picks townhomes not park on Carlsbad land (inewsource.org) — Carlsbad residents pushing for a coastal park near South Ponto Beach just saw the California Coastal Commission approve zoning that clears the way for 120 townhomes instead. The 7-4 vote, after hours of emotional testimony, shifts the future of one of South Carlsbad's last open coastal parcels, raising questions about park access, housing needs, sea level rise and what the City Council will decide next.
   

• Aviara Oaks Middle School Opens Modernized Campus for the 2026/27 School Year (northcountydailystar.com) — Aviara Oaks Middle School students in Carlsbad are starting the 2026-27 year on a fully modernized campus, including a brand-new administration building with STEAM labs and upgraded classrooms. Funded by Measure HH and local taxpayers, the $30 million project also brought new HVAC systems, roofs, landscaping and exterior improvements across six existing buildings, aiming to create a more comfortable and engaging learning environment.
