📰 News we're reading

• Carlsbad Unified Adopts E-Bike Permit and Safety Rules for Students (electricbikeexplorer.com) — Carlsbad Unified's new bike and e-bike rules are now in effect, setting age limits, mandatory safety training, and permit stickers for students who ride to school. Families must confirm their child's eligibility, complete an approved safety course, and follow campus walk-only and parking rules that align with the City of Carlsbad's existing e-bike laws.

• Kelvin waves, El Niño's hidden danger, could make beach and coast erosion worse (kpbs.org) — Carlsbad High students surfing at Tamarack State Beach are seeing their usual sandy shoreline replaced by rocks after recent storms and high surf stripped much of the sand away. Scientists warn that a strong El Niño and little-known Kelvin waves could further raise sea levels, intensify storms, and accelerate erosion along Carlsbad's beaches and coastal bluffs in the coming months.

• Mission Hills plays relentless 'D' against La Costa Canyon, winning 14-0 (sandiegouniontribune.com) — Mission Hills' defense shut out La Costa Canyon 14–0 in Carlsbad, snagging four interceptions and five sacks in the Avocado West league opener. Despite solid rushing from LCC, penalties and dropped passes stalled drives, while short-field opportunities let Mission Hills punch in both touchdowns and hand the Mavericks a frustrating home loss.
