Councilwoman Schumacher Wins Vacant Carlsbad Council Seat

CARLSBAD, CA — Carlsbad Councilwoman Cori Schumacher has been re-elected to the City Council, according to final unofficial results in Tuesday's special election for the city's vacant District 1 seat.

Schumacher, who has held an at-large council seat since 2016, came in first with 46.88% of the vote, with all 15 precincts reporting.

Tracy Carmichael, a former Carlsbad Unified School District trustee, came in second place with 40.26%, while Simon Angel, a retired AT&T employee, took third place with 12.86%.

The special election was added to the March 3 primary ballot to fill the vacancy created when former Councilwoman Barbara Hamilton resigned in October. The term expires in November 2022.
