'Slow Down Carlsbad' Spreads Message Of Road Safety Citywide

Residents and businesses are supporting a new campaign designed to help keep the city streets safe for everyone.

CARLSBAD, CA — As part of the City of Carlsbad’s ongoing traffic safety efforts, the city is partnering with local schools to raise awareness of the rules of the road.

Carlsbad Business Owners! You can participate in the city’s Safer Streets Together campaign. First, take the pledge. Second, show your business cares by displaying a Safer Togeth r Carlsbad window cling. Finally, spread the word.

Through these partnerships, students of all ages are learning how to stay safe on the road, whether walking to school, riding a bike or e-bike, or even learning how to drive. Teaming up with the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition and Circulate San Diego, the city is offering:

  • In-person, interactive assemblies focused on pedestrian safety or bike and e-bike safety.
  • Bike rodeos, where kids can practice bike safety skills in a safe and supportive environment.
  • Virtual webinars with tips for helping kids stay safe whether biking, walking, or learning to drive.
  • Sample emails with safety messages for parents.
  • Banners on school fences remind everyone to be safe, slow down, and share the road.

In the weeks ahead, the city is planning more events where students, parents, and anyone in the community can learn more about staying safe on the road, whether they are walking, biking, or driving.

On Thursday, March 16, the City of Carlsbad, Carlsbad Unified School District, San Diego County Bicycle Coalition, and Circulate San Diego are teaming up for a Parent University webinar about traffic safety. During this one-hour virtual webinar as part of the Parent University series, you will learn:

  • The top causes of local collisions and how to prevent them
  • How to talk to your kids about safety
  • Three simple ways to improve safety when walking, driving, and biking
  • Carlsbad-specific e-bike rules and what happens if you break them
  • The very best way to motivate teens to follow traffic rules.

What all parents should know from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 16.

The city is speaking with community members over Zoom about why traffic safety matters to them and what they are doing to stay safe on the road.

Traffic and mobility are always top of mind for the City of Carlsbad, the city said. The city is committed to helping everyone get around the city safely and conveniently, whether by foot, car, bike, and public transit.
