UPDATE: Fatal Crash Closes Eastbound I-580 in San Leandro

Officers say at least two vehicles were involved in the crash, and at least one of the vehicles overturned and caught fire.

Update:

The California Highway Patrol this morning is reporting eastbound Interstate Highway 580 in Castro Valley should reopen by 7:30 a.m. following a fatal crash. The CHP is continuing to divert traffic off of the highway as crews work to clear the roadway.

Eastbound traffic is currently being diverted at the 164th Avenue off-ramp, and the CHP has issued a Sig-alert due to the crash. All eastbound lanes of the highway are blocked, and there is no estimate as to when the highway will reopen. Emergency crews responded at 4:21 a.m. to rollover crash involving at least two vehicles and with one vehicle engulfed in flames.

People injured in the crash were also transported to the hospital, officers said.

The California Highway Patrol this morning has issued a Sig-alert following a fatal crash on Interstate Highway 580 in San Leandro. The crash occurred around 4:20 a.m. on eastbound Interstate Highway 580 near the 164th Avenue off-ramp, CHP officers said.

All eastbound lanes of the highway are blocked. There were reportedly at least two vehicles involved in the crash, and at least one of the vehicles overturned and caught fire, officers said. Officers have not said when the highway may reopen.
