FBI Director Pushes To Release Old Investigation Involving East Bay Congressman: Report
Rep. Eric Swalwell is running for California governor.
CASTRO VALLEY, CA — The attacks on Rep. Eric Swalwell carry on as he continues his run for California governor, this time involving FBI director Kash Patel and a decade-long investigation involving the congressman, according to a report from the Washington Post.
The investigation apparently involves Swalwell and a suspected Chinese intelligence operative, according to the Post, which said people familiar with the files claim there is no evidence of any wrongdoing on behalf of the congressman, who represents the East Bay.
Patel has been pushing for officials to release the files in a continued push by the Trump administration against Swalwell, who has been vocal against many of the administration's immigration efforts.

The Chinese operative at issue reportedly helped with fundraising for Swalwell's 2014 reelection campaign and placed an intern in his congressional office, according to the Post.
Swalwell eventually cut ties with the operative around 2015 and helped investigators with their case into the issue, according to the Post.

This adds another to the growing list of slams against the politician, who was accused earlier this year of not living in the state and falsifying documents.
He also faced criticism last month after calling his hometown of Dublin “a place of low income and low expectations” on his campaign website.
