CASTRO VALLEY, CA — Temperatures in Castro Valley will push 90 degrees this weekend as the surrounding hills continue to dry out after a wet winter and early spring. Residents with open space around their property should have a defensible space cleared around their homes and land.

For its part, the Alameda County Fire department has initiated enhanced response and dispatch levels for vegetation fires. The department made the switch on June 19.
