Golden Corral Expected to Open in Former Mervyn's Lot

People attending Thursday night's San Lorenzo Village Homes Association board meeting were told that restaurant officials have signed a letter of intent to build on the former Mervyn's lot.

After months of anticipation, was revealed at Thursday night's Board of Directors meeting.

Applause filled the hall after interim administrator Kathy Martins announced that Golden Corral, a family-friendly, buffet-style chain restaurant, is probably coming to San Lorenzo.

Although no formal papers have been signed, Martins said the move is highly likely.

"It's the beginning," she said during the meeting. "We're starting to see a small move."

Residents responded positively when Martins that added that the restaurant does not serve alcoholic beverages.

If built, Golden Corral would supply nearly 150 jobs, Martins said, It could also potentially help draw in other business to fill the long-blighted downtown area.
